All MPH students must complete an Integrative Learning Experience (ILE). The ILE is a cumulative academic experience that requires students to apply the competencies they developed through their coursework, practicum, and mentorship from faculty. Students can fulfill the ILE requirements by conducting an individual thesis under the direction of an identified thesis advising team.
All MPH theses must meet the following requirements:
- The thesis must have an analytic component, which may be qualitative and/or quantitative.
- The thesis must have utility, in the spirit of public health, with some application for public health action. It must be useful for an organization, for developing public policy, for furthering public health research, or for public health application.
- The thesis must be disseminated to a public health audience appropriate to the project. Each student will verify that the thesis has been disseminated in accordance with the approved thesis proposal. For example, the student can provide the confirmation email sent to the student after submitting to a peer-reviewed journal or conference.
